Laney Crowell got her start in social media at Estée Lauder, and in content writing a beauty blog The Moment, and focused the conversation on how to make beauty better in every way. She listened to the community and realized it wasn’t just her. Women wanted clean, high quality makeup. Eventually she founded Saie (pronounced like the word “say”) with the mantra “you say it, we create it,” to show that she is listening, and hearing consumers and what they want. Saie launched in late 2019 with a short line of clean, thoughtfully formulated products and a promise to leave people and the planet better off. Saie became one of the fastest-growing brands in clean beauty, eventually landing seven products in Sephora's top ten. Today it's a $100M+ brand, and Laney is still running it, driven by the same mission she started with. The "feel good, do good" ethos isn't just marketing language. Saie is certified plastic-negative, climate-neutral, and cruelty-free. Their standards list bans over 2,000 ingredients. Every formula is tested to perform.

Saie's #1 bestseller. I love this product because it works with my light-makeup, no makeup routine. It feels like skincare and works like makeup. They recommend it goes under a tinted moisturizer or foundation, but sometimes I wear it as is (although I do love a tinted SPF). I also love that there are only four shades. I feel like I always get the color wrong on the first try, so having limited choices really helped. Allure Best of Beauty 2024.

There's a reason Saie was one of the first brands I knew had to be on this site. I heard Laney on the Emma Grede "Aspire" podcast talking about what her parents told her when she was growing up. It wasn't about being the best or the first, it was just that someone will do it, and it might as well be you (I hope I didn’t butcher that, but I’ve thought about it every day for weeks).I think about that a lot.The other thing that hooked me on Saie is more personal. Ever since I had my first kid, my skin has been incredibly sensitive. When I wear a full face of makeup, there's this low-grad feeling in the back of my mind that my skin is paying for it. Most of the time I go bare skin because that mental noise bothers me more than I like to admit. With Saie, I know the ingredients won’t irritate my skin which means I can actually be present in those moments where I do have a full face on, and it makes me more comfortable and confident.
